Independent 3rd party lab testing is part of current good manufacturing practices compliance. We get our Solomon kava lab tested at Alkemist Labs and Kappa Labs. As part of our extensive testing program to ensure that our Solomon kava is contaminant free and either noble or tudei (depending on what you are looking for) we run microscopy, HTPLC and/or HPLC tests on each batch that is imported using the square root of n+1 sampling method. We make all of our lab tests available to the public.

 Kava Chemotypes

  1. Desmethoxyyangonin
  2. Dihydrokavain
  3. Yangonin
  4. Kavain
  5. Dihydromethysticin
  6. Methysticin

A kava chemotype is typed based on the descending concentraion of these six kavalactones within it's roots.  This means that a cultivar such as a Vanuatu Melo Melo with a chemotype of 245631, contains primarily dihydrokavain, followed in descending order of concetration by kavain, dihydromethysticin, yangonin, methysticin, and desmethoxyyangonin.  To be classified as a noble kava, a strain must have a chemotype that begins with either 2-4 or 4-2, meaning its roots contain primarily either kavain or dihydrokavain.
